CIEH Level 2 in Principles of Risk Assessment

Aim of the workshop
This new qualification is designed to help improve the workplace culture for occupational health and safety by enabling learners to understand the basic principles of risk assessment. This CIEH Level 2 Award Principles in Risk Assessment was created in response to industry requirements for all employees to be risk aware. Although not all employees will be expected to undertake risk assessments themselves, they may be asked to contribute to the process and will be expected to act always to protect their own health and safety and that of others. At the end of the workshop learners will be required to take a short multiple-choice assessment paper to prove their knowledge of health and safety risk assessments at Level 2

Workshop objectives
By the end of this workshop those attending will have a better understanding of how to:
  • Ability to contribute both to the maintenance of a safe work environment and to the process of formal risk assessment
  • Understand the legal requirements for risk assessment
  • Understand the principles of risk assessment including:
    • hazards, risks and control measures
    • the five steps of risk assessment
    • the hierarchy of control
    • risk assessment review and record keeping

  • Background to health and safety at work
  • The reasons for needing risk assessments
  • The difference between hazard, risk and control measures
  • The legislation and how it relates to risk assessments
  • The principles of risk assessment

Workshop attendees

Anyone in a work environment as it raises learners’ awareness of the concept of risk assessment.


Assessment for certification
The assessment for this qualification is a multiple choice test paper


Workshop duration and cost
This is of 1 days duration and costs £75.00 per person plus VAT this includes course workbook, certification with CIEH, and refreshments.
